Donation policy
Clarity around every contribution.
This policy explains how EAO accepts, allocates, records and, where appropriate, refunds donations.
Approved by Educate an Orphan on 10 September 2026. Online Paystack payments are activated only when EAO’s live configuration is securely connected.
Effective 10 September 2026
1. Scope
This policy applies to one-time and recurring donations made to Educate an Orphan through the website, Paystack, bank transfer or another method expressly approved by EAO. A donation is a voluntary gift and does not purchase control over a child, programme decision or charitable outcome.
2. Ways to give and payment security
EAO may accept general donations and gifts intended for school fees, sponsorship, learning materials, student support or another stated purpose. When online giving is active, card payments, Paystack bank transfers and Direct Debit authorisation are handled by Paystack. EAO does not store full card numbers, PINs, one-time passwords or online-banking passwords. Donors making a manual bank transfer should use the official account information displayed on the website and include a useful payment reference where possible.
3. Allocation and restricted gifts
EAO will seek to apply a purpose-designated donation to that purpose. Educational needs, timing and safeguarding considerations may affect the precise beneficiary or cost funded. If a purpose is fully funded, becomes impracticable or cannot be used safely or lawfully, EAO will contact the donor where reasonably possible or apply the gift to the closest related educational need in a manner consistent with its restricted-gift procedure. General donations may be used where programme leadership determines the need is greatest.
4. Fees, currency and receipts
Payment providers and banks may deduct processing or transfer fees. Unless EAO states otherwise, amounts shown on the website are in Nigerian naira. EAO will issue an electronic acknowledgement or receipt using the information supplied by the donor. A receipt confirms payment; it does not by itself establish that a donation is tax-deductible. Donors should obtain their own tax advice.
5. Recurring donations
Where recurring giving is enabled, the amount, frequency and selected duration will be shown before authorisation. Fixed commitments stop after the stated number of donations; commitments marked “Until I cancel” continue until cancelled or otherwise ended. Donors may request Paystack’s secure management link using the email address connected to the donation, or contact EAO for help. A Direct Debit becomes chargeable only after Paystack confirms that its authorisation is active. Cancelling future charges does not automatically refund donations already processed.
6. Refunds, errors and duplicate payments
Donations are generally final because programme commitments may be made in reliance on them. EAO may consider a refund where a payment was duplicated, made in error, unauthorised, processed for an incorrect amount or required to be returned by law. Requests should be made as soon as possible and preferably within fourteen days, with the donor’s name, date, amount and transaction reference. Approved refunds will ordinarily be returned through the original payment method. Processing fees may not be recoverable, and provider or bank timelines may apply.
7. Fraud, disputes and refusal of donations
EAO may pause, reject or return a donation that appears fraudulent, unlawful, inconsistent with its mission, subject to unacceptable conditions, connected with sanctions or financial crime, or likely to create disproportionate safeguarding, reputational or administrative risk. Donors should contact EAO before initiating a chargeback so that an apparent error can be reviewed, without limiting any rights they may have through their bank or payment provider.
8. Records and reporting
EAO will maintain records of donation income, expenditure, corrections, known fees and programme allocations in accordance with its financial procedures and legal obligations. Public reporting should use verified aggregate information and must not reveal a child’s identity or sensitive circumstances unnecessarily.
9. Donor information
EAO will use donor information to process, account for and acknowledge contributions, prevent fraud, respond to enquiries and provide updates where permitted. Paystack and financial institutions process transaction information under their own legal notices. Further information is provided in EAO’s Privacy Policy.
10. Questions and refund requests
Questions, payment-error reports and refund requests may be sent to admin@educateanorphan.com or made by telephone on +234 810 811 4407. EAO will acknowledge a request as promptly as reasonably possible and review it under its internal financial approval process.
